Enforcement of Zoning Regulations | |||
Quadrant You Live In | Age | Years Living in Verona | Comments |
North East | 30 to 45 | 6 to 10 | It seems we are too eager to compromise our zoning regs for the sake of developers and corrupt politicians. |
North East | 30 to 45 | Over 10 | we need to maintain a pleasing downtown district - less nail salons & pizza places & we must not allow the residential streets bordering Bloomfield Avenue to be encroached. |
North East | 46 to 60 | Over 10 | Our town/Bloomfield Ave is looking more and more like Routes 46 and 22, rather than a quaint center of town ie Upper Montclair, Watchung Plaza. It's very disturbing, and would be a reason for me to leave. |
North East | Over 60 | 6 to 10 | Don't give in to vested self-interests (eg. Kips, big auto dealerships on the Avenue). |
North East | Over 60 | Over 10 | It appears that most request for variances get rubber stamped; it is rare to see any request denied. Thus there is a continuing downgrading of the town Master Plan. Pretty soon all lots will be non-conforming. |
North West | 30 to 45 | Over 10 | Mr. Hynes seems to love his job and he does a great job at it. |
North West | 46 to 60 | Over 10 | again, it all depends on who you know |
North West | 46 to 60 | Over 10 | It seems that they monitor them closely. |
South East | 30 to 45 | Over 10 | It's who you know. |
South East | 46 to 60 | 6 to 10 | The Zoning Board is a joke! They need some architects on the board who know what's being presented to them. There is a lot of back patting going on in this town. Or you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. Celantanos had already been allowed to exceed their zoning ordinances when the Zoning Board allowed them to exceed those ordinances even more. This is wrong! There is too much happening where people are allowing family friends and neighbors to get away with breaking ordinances. One of my neighbors was allowed to build a house on a lot that was owned by the town and considered too small. They allowed the owner to get someone to draw up a plot map that showed their property as extending into their neighbors' properties. When the new owners bought the house, they found out that their neighbors land actually extended right up to their front steps on one side, and all the way across their driveway on the other side. They were forced to buy the land from their neighbors. All because of the Zoning Board's decisions. As I said, get an architect on your board. I think they should be rid of those giant billboards near the crossing of Pompton Avenue and Bloomfield. What an eyesore!!!!! Let's make an effort to make our town a little more beautiful! |
South East | 46 to 60 | Over 10 | I have found the zoning officer responsive in fielding questions or concerns which I have personally addressed to his attention. I have heard my neighbors exhibit the same feelings. His responsiveness is not, however, a matter of public policy which would have both the zoning officer and the planning and zoning boards take a more proactive stance in regard to ensure compliance with local codes prohibiting, for example, the parking of construction vehicle in private driveways of residential dwellings overnight or recreational vehicles/boats parked and visible from the roads; or window signs which exceed maximum allowable coverage in commercial storefronts. |
South West | 30 to 45 | 6 to 10 | It seems that the townspeople have to go through a lot of trouble just to prevent zoning from being changed. Current zoning should be more difficult to change than it is. The likelihood of changing zoning should not be directly proportional to the number of lawyers the petitioning business can hire. |
South West | 30 to 45 | Over 10 | It seems as though every available space is being filled by a house! Lots are split so easily. |
South West | 30 to 45 | Over 10 | They need to be more strongly enforced |
South West | 46 to 60 | Over 10 | There has already been an office bldg put up in a residential zone in my area. The current zoning regs. need to be strictly upheld. |
South West | 46 to 60 | Over 10 | How did they ever let a car lot be built where Celentano's was? What are our town planners thinking? Another example of a decision made before the public knew what was going on. |
South West | Over 60 | Over 10 | Does anyone ever say "no"? |
